ROOT CARRIER TEMPLE PERFORMANCE

Taking an abandoned structure as a place of the temple, I reflect on the displacement of places and people. Reconnecting with Artemisia, the installation is a form of rebuilding on an abundant land and
re-collecting a marginalized community through disrupting the archive and reimaging a new archive. The installation follows with a ceremonial based Artemisia tea performance along with a monologue of expression towards to the past and the people.

The Teochew community in Paris can be identified in many ways, not only  Chinese Teochews, but also those from Cambodia. They are referred to as '' Teochew" in connection with the Chaozhou language spoken in the southern part of China. In a particular way, it was a consequence of the decolonization
and the coming to power of the Communist Party in Cambodia. These groups of people fled conflicts or the threat of racial oppression. Most diasporas come with a heavy backpack of stories, and their skills are often revealed through the wisdom of care. Community care is an act of love, and they have learned how to care for their families during difficult transitions. Therefore, the performance and the temple work as a place to archive stories and blossom community imagination.
